Hispanic Heritage Month

The Palm Beach County Library System proudly celebrates our community’s cultural diversity, the beautiful traditions of Latin American countries, and the important contributions Hispanics have made to American society.

The national commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month began with a week-long observance, started in 1968 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Twenty years later, President Ronald Reagan expanded the observation to September 15 - October 15, a month-long period which includes several Latin American countries’ anniversaries of independence. In 1988, Congress approved Law #100-402 to call on the people of the United States, especially the educational community, to observe National Hispanic Heritage Month with appropriate ceremonies and activities.

On Sat, Sep 09, at the Main Library, this month-long celebration will kick off with the children’s Mexican folkloric dance group, México Mágico and a repertoire of traditional and contemporary melodies from the highlands of Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, presented by Wayna, Music of the Andes. Listed below are the special activities we offer at our branches to celebrate throughout the months of September and October.

Activities offered during Hispanic Heritage Month are made possible by the generosity of the Friends of the Palm Beach County Library.
